Slaughter Family Cemetery, Apache Co, Arizona


 
The following cemetery information was extracted by Edith Ray, August 2001.
 
The Cemetery is located on Maricopa at the bottom of Graveyard Hill. It is a block to the west of the Springerville Primary School. It is enclosed by a white picket fence that was done as an Eagle project by Denver Wilkins of Troop 85.
 
Peter Slaughter is a first cousin to famed Texan, John Slaughter. Peter Slaughter and his Rough Trailhands brought the first Texas cattle to the White Mountains about 1881. He built his P Lazy S Ranch on the Black River. Pete is buried here with three sons and extended family.

Four children's graves covered with rock inside a small white picket fence with no markers.
 
South of picket fence is a child's grave. Tombstone is marble and is a foot tall with 8 inch slope with flowers on it. Face has NAT; infant son of P.E. and Mollie; age 3 months. At the base is SLAUGHTER. This rests on a cement block about 8 inches thick.
 
There are two graves covered with cement with no headstones.
