| In the early 1930's, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) interviewed Arizona pioneers who were in Arizona prior to Statehood (1912). These records are kept at the Arizona State Archives, Phoenix, AZ. The purpose of this project is to publish the interviews as well as the genealogy related information from the interviews.
The interview stories tell of early life in Arizona, the hardships, how they survived, conflicts with other cultures, etc. The stories often mention other names of family, or neighbors, or traveling companions; usually tell where the pioneer came from before arriving in Arizona, naming parents, spouses, children. Genealogists from other States who are looking for lost ancestors, should be interested in the cross-reference data base. I am in the process of publishing the full cross-reference data base and the interviews of the pioneers. If you wish to be notified when the book is ready, please send me an email. |
